You can drive two-phase unipolar stepping motor.

 Test drive video

This Video is a test of the circuit with an Arduino compatible board, to operate a small stepping motor winding resistance 68Ω for extruder, and some stepping motor, that is rated 1A par axis to drive, of the winding resistance of 3.15Ω.
The Motor for shaft drive is operated from a 5V supply.
The heat was too much out, Once operate at about 8V at the beginning, so, extruder stepping motor was operated an additional resistor of 22Ω.
From the power supply 12V, it was changed about 8V by a variable voltage regulator substrate to be freely decided by the voltage.


 Sample resistor values ​​and calculation method

There was some motors 3.15Ω resistance winding in my house.
Flows about 1A Using the power source of 3V.
Voltage ÷ resistance value = Electric current
Because I thought it will be to hot with the surface area (radiation area) of the motor, so added resistance of 5Ω.
I use a 5V power supply, with insert a diode in backflow prevention, so, the power source will be a little more of 4V.
About 500mA flows through in doing so, it was a good, not rise in the heat.
The insertion position of resistance is the front of each transistor. (Used 4 resistance)

The case of a motor Winding resistance is 68Ω.
At the beginning, by changing about 8V by a variable voltage regulator board from the power supply 12V, Without using the resistance.
However, the surface area is too small, the heat is muffled, so added resistance of 22Ω only at the power line.
Because total power is small, use a resistor only COM lines of the root, for savings the resistors quantity.

Method of calculation
Voltage to the motor ÷ The amount of resistance value = total amount of Electric current to the motor
In this unit, Because it uses a diode at the motor power supply, and uses a transistor to control, so when streaming around 500mA Electric current, there is a voltage drop of about 1V.
The transistor and diode, the voltage drop is small when streaming a small amount of Electric current, the voltage drop will increase when streaming large Electric current.
In the case of regular stepping motor, please calculate to using the value, by subtracting 1V from the voltage of power supply.
Total resistance value is the value obtained by adding the resistance value and the winding resistance.
If you keep moving for a long time, to be the Electric current value of about 50% of the rated Electric current of the motor, please use it by changing the resistance value or voltage value.

 How to Make

2 power source board, It is divided into motor drive power supply, and circuit power supply.
Motor power is available free voltage(24V or less)
For 3.3V-5V, please connect the power supply for circuit to the round of orange, or install a jumper 0Ω on the red line.
For 6V-24V, please connect the power to the drive circuit V1 or V2.
Please connect the motor power at the yellow circle.
Since there is a capacitor on the position of the blue circle, please connect the GND to the circle of the light blue, to GND.
If you do not use a resistor, A / B / A¯ / B¯ of the motor line, please attach directly on the square of purple.
If the resistance is big, such as cement, it is possible to put a resistor in the box of purple, and attach directly on the motor line, series with a resistor.
(In which case, it does not use the holes in the A / B / A¯ / B¯)
After power-up, about 0.2 seconds will be the wait time for stabilizing.
It is a simple circuit of only connecting the motor and power supply.
